WHAT PATIENTS SAY
“I was playing football at a high standard before I had to have numerous injuries in my knee. As a result, I started to fall out with the game and finally underwent an ACL reconstruction which required several months of intense physio. Mark couldn’t have been more helpful putting me with Lee one of his work colleagues who specialises in ACL Rehab to help me strengthen and regain movement in my knee plus recovering my fitness. It was a tough process, but now I am back to playing my football again and most of all enjoying it! This couldn’t have been achieved without the hard work, time and guidance Mark and his team gave me – so for that, I really owe them one”.

Sarah started her career with the insurance giant Norwich Union (now Aviva) and worked her way up into management, ironically, moving into the Healthcare / Private Medical Insurance sector. Sarah also worked for the NHS where she gained valuable insight into primary healthcare in Sheffield. She now manages everything from top-to-bottom at Sheffield Therapy Centre from the legal stuff to making an awesome brew! Basically, everything except the clinical therapy.
On a personal level Sarah’s life is centred around her one and only son – you can’t improve on perfection so she stuck to one. He’s a keen footballer and this strikes her diary out almost completely along with her husband Mark (physio) and Cockerpoo, Milo. Combine a little Prosecco, Rose wine and a giant bag of peanut M & M’s and she’s good as gold. With all the waiting around she squeezes in Spanish on the Duolingo app and wholeheartedly recommends swimming to clear the mind and get the ticker going. Sarah loves football too so is always glued to a match somewhere. Sarah is tremendously clumsy and is lucky to be married to a physio to fix her.
Mark entered the world of Physiotherapy as a mature student, more years ago than he would like to admit. Following a brief career in professional football at Doncaster Rovers, where injury forced early retirement, he was inspired to study at Huddersfield University to become a chartered physiotherapist due to his experiences as an injured footballer. To aid his studies and gain experience he worked for 3 years with the therapists at Huddersfield Town F.C. Academy. Following this he turned down the opportunity to work in professional football, in order to further his knowledge base working for the NHS. After graduation he went on to work at Rotherham General Hospital and worked his way up to be a Senior Physiotherapist. Mark is our Head Sports Physio and has also worked as consultant physiotherapist to Sheffield Football Club, the world’s first football club. Mark can see any type of musculoskeletal problem but has a keen interest in sports injuries, particularly of the knee.
Mark is a keen runner and some would say with his arthritis and asthma he’s an inspiration to others that want to start exercising. As a sports physio, he is clearly interested in all sports – especially football. Watching, playing and coaching his son’s grassroots junior football league team takes up pretty much all of his spare time but has been a very enjoyable experience. He also enjoys comedy clubs, making a mess, fidgeting and boxing.
Matthew runs our regular Chiropody / Podiatry clinic every Thursday morning. With over 20 years experience, he is confident there isn’t much he hasn’t seen in the way of foot health. He is registered with the Health Care Professions Council and his work is recognised by many insurers. A very hard working man indeed and our patients are guaranteed to benefit from his experience and treatment. Very little daylight in his diary due his loyal patients spreading the word, so Matthew is running a cancellation list for anyone interested in his service.
Matt enjoys playing squash, supporting Liverpool FC and is family man with three children and a wicked sense of humour; there is never a dull moment with Matt. Thursday morning clinics are certainly a highlight of our week in clinic having him around. A highly experience therapist and one that can also make a superb cup of tea. We love Matt.
Marc is an Elite Sports Physio with a specialist interest in Boxing and Canoeing working with Team GB squads at the English Institute of Sports in Sheffield. Marc has also worked for Derbyshire Cricket supporting the reserve and academy squads and Hull Tigers Academy. Marc has also gained a masters degree in Advanced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy to complement his Sports Physio degree so knows his stuff inside out. Another superb brain to pick in clinic.
In Marc’s spare time he enjoys Ultra Marathons, trail running so you can pick his brains if this is your thing too. He also loves spending quality time with his young baby and wife.
Matt is an experienced sports physio with a special interest in football injuries and sports injuries. Matt has worked for Sheffield United FC and Rotherham United FC gaining valuable experience and also has experience in Orthopaedic specialisms at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals working with patients who have had recent joint replacement surgery, fractures and ACL ligament reconstructions. He is able to see any musculoskeletal injury whatever their cause.
In his spare time Matt is an avid football fan and plays football for his local pub team where he is also a keen volunteer in helping to run the club.
Joe is an experienced musculoskeletal Physiotherapist and has run a joint replacement clinic within the NHS. He can treat numerous mechanical deficits in upper and lower limbs, using manual therapy, education/innovative exercise techniques as well as specifically treating tendinopathies, tendon ruptures and
mechanical/surgical spinal conditions.
Joe is a keen climber and also plays football too previously succeeding at semi-pro level.
She tried to escape though when lockdown hit and announced her retirement. We let her think we were letting her go and she retired peacefully. We of course kept in touch and timed our offer of a part-time return to work to perfection as slight boredom was kicking in. We’re absolutely delighted to have her back albeit only a few hours. Gill is a very keen runner and likes her nibbles and wine like too.
The reason the clinic exists – Lucas Roe. When mum Sarah and Dad Mark struggled to fit work around a new premature baby, a new plan B was needed and Sheffield Therapy Centre was born. In the blink of an eye, he’s grown up fast and is keen to master the trade he’s learned about from being a baby.
Lucas is now helping with accountancy, administration, cleaning and is also learning all about Sports Physio and Podiatry with Podiatry interesting him as a future career. He’s academically gifted, super sporty and incredibly witty. Lucas plays football at a high level in grassroots and like most young ballers, has hopes of playing for a career although he realises the odds are against him so must keep his head in his books too. The world is your lobster Lukey!
