Podiatry

What is Podiatry / Chiropody?

“Leonardo da Vinci” claimed the feet to be the “best piece of architecture in the world”. The profession of podiatry has developed from its origins in chiropody to become a medical specialty dealing with assessment, diagnosis and treatment of the lower limb. Podiatry has developed a broad scope of practice focusing on the use of scientific principles for the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of a wide range of lower limb disorders. PODIATRY IN SHEFFIELD

Podiatry in its modern sense involves total care of the feet and through them, the whole body. Podiatrists will ask many questions about your general health. This isn’t to be nosey, it is to ensure an accurate diagnosis and the best treatment available. Podiatrists are included in the whole medical team and may work closely with your GP, Consultant, Osteopath, Physiotherapist etc. We are known for providing some of the best podiatry in Sheffield.

Podiatrists are highly trained health professionals specialising in assessment and treatment of the lower limb & foot pathologies. Podiatrists are independent professionals who are able to adapt to working in a variety of clinical environments both within the National Health Service and the private sector. Podiatry in Sheffield and nationwide continues to be a developing progressive profession enhancing patient mobility and quality of life. Once again, a protected title and online checks can be done via https://www.hcpc-uk.org/check-the-register/

Because many diseases are often first observed by symptoms in the feet, a Chiropodist/Podiatrist is frequently called upon to point out such disorders as diabetes mellitus, arthritis, and circulatory problems. With increasing numbers of people taking part in exercise, many Podiatrists now practice sports medicine, such as the fitting of foot supports, called orthotics.

Many patients can be embarrassed about their feet and in particular, some of the problems they are suffering. We see many foot problems – it is what we do. There is no need to be embarrassed at all. Routine Chiropody treatment includes such things as nails cut and filed, corns/hard skin removed and advice about ongoing foot care. Some problems are inherited, and some develop from illnesses in middle age, or from the pressure of ill-fitting shoes. Podiatry in Sheffield can be used to treat a whole range of problems from bunions / toe deformities to diabetic foot problems, and heel pain to weak arches.

WHAT PATIENTS SAY

“Really pleased with the end result of my treatment!  I was concerned that my knee problem was going to restrict my mobility indefinitely. I am 79 and love to walk and go to the gym, being immobile was not an option for me so Mark Roe and his team at Sheffield Therapy Centre was recommended. Best decision I made to go along and seek advice and treatment. My knee is 100% better, and my quality of life has improved greatly, and I have been advised on how to manage my knee problem long term. Not only is Mark an excellent and knowledgeable physio, he is a very nice person too. Everyone I dealt with at the clinic was very helpful and friendly.  Thank you Mark for a job well done! Would definitely recommend to anyone”.
